Jumpstart Fundraiser Hosted by the Thirsty Goose Pub and The Northumberland SC
2019 was a very important year for soccer in Northumberland County. After many years of discussions, the Port Hope and Cobourg Soccer Club (PHSC) and the Cobourg Soccer Club finally merged to form the Northumberland Soccer Club (NSC). However, one thing that has not changed is the fact that many families cannot afford to put their children into organized sports. The NSC and the Jumpstart program recently collaborated to help that cause by holding a fundraising event at the Thirsty Goose Pub in Port Hope.
Jumpstart is a charity that helps by sponsoring kids to play sports and other activities who otherwise would not be able to afford it. It provides children with the opportunity to boost their self-esteem, nurture their creativity and help them do better in school. It also helps them connect with their communities so they can be part of something bigger.
It turned out to be a wondering evening at the Thirsty Goose Pub in Port as patrons gave generously to support a very worthwhile cause. The Thirsty Goose donated the food for a barbeque on their street side patio and patrons participated in a dart game and 50/50 draw. At the end of the evening, The Thirsty Goose was able to write a check for $645 dollars to support the Jumpstart program.
Doug and Joan McCann from Salvation Army Community and Family Services manage the Jumpstart program for Northumberland County and they were thrilled with the outcome. “On behalf of the families and children in the community, we want to thank the Northumberland Soccer Club and the Thirsty Goose for hosting a fundraising event resulting in a substantial donation to support Jumpstart Charities. Every dollar counts, because every child counts and the donation will help us continue to assist children to participate in sports and other physical activities throughout the year.”
Co-owner Rejean Maranda from the Thirsty Goose was happy to contribute to such a worthwhile cause. “As a relatively new business owner to the community, this is a cause that we can definitely get behind”.
NSC Vice-President John Poirier organized the event and was grateful for the support that the Club received from the Thirsty Goose. “Every child deserves a chance to experience success and being able to participate in some kind of activity such as a sport, is a great building block for a child’s future”. Plans are already underway to organize an even better event next year.
1. Hire an additional administrative assistant to help improve the efficiency of the office – main job responsibilities will be communications (returning emails/voicemails received, answering phones), help parents complete registration, etc.
2. To again hire technical assistants to help operate drills and game play for volunteer coaches
Outdoor House League registration will begin in January for the 2020 season.
To contact the club administrator, Frances Martin, at firstname.lastname@example.org or call her at 905-377-9361.
The club is busy already preparing for the 2019 outdoor soccer season. The club is currently looking for businesses within Northumberland who would like to sponsor a house league team. Team sponsorship is $350.00 per team and businesses are welcome to sponsor more than one team if they wish. The benefits of sponsorship are: company logo screeened onto the front of a set of team jerseys, company name and logo with a link to your company web page under our sponsorship page we are currently creating, and social media exposure on our Facebook page.
The Office will be open 4 days a week – Monday and Tuesday 8:30 – 2:00 pm, Wednesday 11 am to 3 pm and Thursday from 3 pm – 8 pm
